How better to experience alternative lives than through theatre (the live alternative). This curiosity led Laura to writing, masks and props. Originally from Calgary, Laura attended the University of Victoria (Theatre and English). She was fortunate to train at the old Vancouver Playhouse shop with some of the best builders anywhere, and has worked for 18 years in theatre and dance, plus the occasional exhibit and TV/film project.
Laura has created props for Theatre Calgary, Science World, Kidd Pivot and Theatre SKAM. Past projects include episodes of Dead Like Me and Robson Arms; The Overcoat (Playhouse); The Philanderer (Arts Club) and If We Are Women (Belfry Theatre). Laura has worked as Head of Props for various shows and companies, and has provided guest or workshop instruction at Mount Royal College, Capilano U and The Banff Centre. She currently acts as occasional builder and teaching assistant in the props department at UVic (where she's been instructed not to swear Alberta-style around the students).
As a theatre maker, Laura Farn wrote The Bike Ride (Solo Collective Emerging Playwrights Winner, 2006) and developed two scripts for projects with choreographer Kyrsten Blair, including Missy (High Performance Rodeo, One Yellow Rabbit). These days she's working on a couple of book and play ideas, and developing full courses which expand upon her mask making workshops.
